The following matters were discussed:
· Activities of TC14 were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, since the last TC14 meeting the following activities were organised:
o Thematic Symposium “Integrity of Biomedical and Biological Materials” was organised by TC14 on 29 June 2020 within the framework of the 1st Virtual European Conference on Fracture. Nine lectures were presented in this Symposium, while an overview on mechanics of biomaterials was presented in the Keynote Lecture by ESIS TC14 Chair Prof. Vadim V. Silberschmidt. o Special issue
“Damage and Fracture of Biomedical Materials”
of the Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials by Elsevier was published (see here) with ESIS TC14 Chair Prof. Silberschmidt as its Guest Editor. It contains 24 papers covering various aspects of the topic.
o ESIS TC14 also organised a topical day
Biomedical and Biological Materials
within the framework of the 1st Virtual ESIS Summer School – VESS1 on 6 July 2020, with 20+ young researchers participating in it. The programme of this day included lectures by the leading scientists from Oxford University, UK; University of Belgrade, Serbia; Loughborough University, UK and University of Zaragoza, Spain. The day was concluded with a final test for participants.
· TC14 meetings will be organised annually: even years – within the framework of the European Conference on Fracture (ECF); odd years – within the framework of events organised by TC14.
· A dedicated TC 14 symposium is organised within the framework of ECF 23 in 2022, with publications in Special Issue of Procedia Structural Integrity.
· The series International Conference on Stents: Materials, Mechanics and Manufacturing will be organised every two-three years. The topic will be extended, with a new name International Conference on Medical Devices: Materials, Mechanics and Manufacturing, with the next conference to be held in Summer 2023.
· Mini Symposium “Mechanics of Biomedical Materials and Devices” will be organised by ESIS TC14 within the framework of the 10th International Conference on Modern Practice in Stress and Vibration Analysis (MPSVA 2022) to be held at St. Anne’s College, Oxford, UK, 12-14 July 2022 (see http://mpsva2022.iopconfs.org).
· Symposium “Mechanics of Biomedical Materials and Devices” will be organised by ESIS TC14 within the framework of the 29th International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences (ICCES2023) will be held in Shenzhen, China, 2-5 May 2023 (see http://www.iccesconf.org/). The call for abstracts will be in September 2022.
Actions:
· Suggestions of the venue for the 2nd International Conference on Medical Devices: Materials, Mechanics and Manufacturing in 2023 with 100+ participants are sought. Deadline: 15 September 2022.
· Any suggestions about the future ESIS TC14 activities should be sent to its Chair (V.Silberschmidt@lboro.ac.uk).

· TC14 meetings will be organised annually: even years – within the framework of the European Conference on Fracture (ECF); odd years – within the framework of events organised by TC14. In 2020, the TC meeting will be organised during ECF23, 27 June -3 July 2020 in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.
· A dedicated TC 14 symposium will be organised within the framework of ECF 23 in 2020, with publications in Special Issue of Procedia Structural Integrity.
· Special issue in affiliated ESIS journals are in preparation:
o Special issue of Engineering Fracture Mechanics “Damage and Fracture of Biological and Biomedical Materials”
o Special Issue of Procedia Structural Integrity dedicated to ICS3M2019
· It was agreed to continue the series of International Conference on Stents: Materials, Mechanics and Manufacturing every two-three years, with the next conference organised in another country. The organisers will try to find the suitable venue for the next conference (all suggestions should be sent to ESIS TC14). A closer link with industrial companies and clinicians will be sought. One discussed option is to have a back-to-back conference with either a medical or an industrial conference.
· FM introduced the next Conference of the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB 2020) to be organised in Milan, 12 – 15 July 2020 (FM is the Conference Chair). TC14 members are invited to contribute to the special track on medical devices chaired by LZ.

The following matters were discussed:
· TC14 meetings will be organised annually: even years – within the framework of the European Conference on Fracture (ECF 23 will be organised in Madeira in 2020); odd years – within the framework of events organised by TC14 (in 2019 – at the International Conference on Stents: Materials, Mechanics and Manufacturing ICS3M in London, 15-17 July).
· ECF 23 will have a dedicated mini-symposium organised by TC14.
· TC14 is preparing a Special Issue of Engineering Fracture Mechanics “Damage and Fracture of Biological and Biomedical Materials” (Guest Editors: Vadim Silberschmidt, Loughborough University, UK and Jose Manuel Garcia Aznar, University of Zaragoza, Spain). Deadline for submission – 30 November 2018.
· TC14 members are encouraged to invite potential participants to ICSM3 (the flyer is attached; please forward it to those who could be interested).
· TC14 members are also encouraged to invite colleagues from academia, industry and clinics to join TC14.
· Suggestions of topics and venues for TC14 events are welcome; one option is to merge them with some local or national events in this area.
· AG volunteered to enquire about opportunities for accommodation of students and young researchers during ICS3M in London and the dedicated social programme (before the end of October).
· VS and Liguo Zhao to seek the opportunities for prize(s) to young participants of ICS3M.

1. TC14 Chair introduced a focus and current membership of ESIS TC14 together with some initial ideas for its activities. It was reminded that TC members should be ESIS members (current annual individual membership fee EUR 30); non-ESIS members can attend TC meetings as guests (see ESIS statutes at http://www.structuralintegrity.eu/pdf/new-statute-2016-1.pdf).
2. Based on general discussion, TC14 decided to circulate to its members the following list of Committee’s initial activities for discussion and approval:
· Establish a dedicated TC14 mini-symposium within the framework of the European Conferences on Fracture, starting with the next one – ECF 22, held in Belgrade, Serbia, 26-31.8.2018 (confirmed by the organisers) with a publication of its papers in a Special Issue of Engineering Fracture Mechanics. Action: VS
· Initiate a new series of international conferences under the aegis of ESIS TC14 with a provisional title International Conference on Stents: Materials, Mechanics and Manufacturing with its first issue in 2019 and frequency once in 2 or 3 years. Potential venue: London (LU campus); other suggestions are sought. Deadline for decision on its organisers and venue – November 2017. Action: all
· Consider organising a thematic workshop at Diamond Light Source (UK's National Synchrotron Science Facility) on analysis of biomaterials. Action: AK
· Consider introducing Best Student Paper Awards for participants of scientific events organised by TC14. Action: VS
· Consider means to attract, and enhance participation of, early-career researchers in activities of TC14, including a use of special rates (where possible) for associated scientific events; organisation of special poster sessions, summer schools etc. Action: all
· Attracting non-academic members – researchers and practitioners from industrial companies as well as medical doctors and specialists – to activities of TC14. Potential activities – development of standards on testing biological materials. Action: all
· (post-meeting) Consider organisation of a ESIS TC14 mini-symposium within the framework of the Congress of European Society of Biomechanics in Vienna, Austria in 2019 (Christian Hellmich discussed the matter with his Co-Chair). Action: VS, CH
· Consider organisation of a ESIS TC14 workshop within the framework of EuroNanoForum. Action: AK
3. TC14 Officers: Dr Simin Li was elected TC14 Secretary (suggested: VS, seconded: AR). Election of a TC14 Vice-Chair was postponed in order to attract candidates from other European countries; suggestions should be sent to the TC14 Secretary. Deadline: November 2017.
4. Other matters:
· Future TC14 meetings will be organised during scientific events associated with or organised by the Technical Committee. The next one will be during the ECF 22 in Belgrade (see http://www.ecf22.rs/).
· All TC14 members are encouraged to invite potential members of this Committee.
· On payment of ESIS membership fees, please notify the TC14 Secretary for updating the TC 14 mailing list.
