The information on this page is just for you! Hopefully it will give you everything you need to know about what to expect about your first few days as part of your new school and reassure you about any worries you have. If you still do have any questions, please don't be afraid to get mum, dad or carer to get in touch with the school to ask any questions you may still have.
This is Mrs Anwar, the Principal of Strood Academy.
She is excited to see all the new Year 6 students join us soon, and especially looking forward to what excellent attitudes and work we will see in the classrooms and clubs you join.
This is Mrs Bloomfield and Mrs Saunders. They run the big desk in the middle of the school building and help students in many different ways.
This is Mrs Phillips and Mrs Hunter. They can help students (and families) in a variety of ways such as with bereavement or well-being coping strategies.
Mrs Cox is our SENCO and helps ensure many students get the help they need in being successful learners. Mr Matthews is in charge of Safeguarding, helping to ensure everyone is looked after.
Mr Tillbrook is our librarian, and is looking forward to meeting you and hearing about what you like to read!
Reading is one of the most important things you can do to help you do well in school. It widens your vocabulary, it increases your knowledge and it allows you to experience things you may not get to do yourselves in real life. We use a number of online resources connected to our library to help boost your reading levels.
Bringing the right equipment is the most important thing you can do every day, as this means you will always be set up to have a good day. You will be provided with a locker when you join, so you can keep a number of things in school safely. Every day you will need your school lanyard and your pencil case, stocked with all the bits you need for lessons (pens, pencils, ruler, eraser, sharpener) but other times you will also need to make sure you also have your P.E. kit. You will be given a timetable (plus you and your family can also log in to see it on MyCAS), and will soon know on what days you need to have what bits of equipment.
You are not allowed to carry bags around the school, so your locker is an important part of your school life. You can visit your locker at the start of the day, start & ends of breaks and at the end of the day. You can't use it during lessons.
If you do happen to forget something important, or lose a locker key, this is where Student Services are able to help you.
It is really important to make sure you look after yourself by staying hydrated and eating well.
Our food in school is provided by a company called Cuccina, and they offer a whole variety of food. From a salad bar to sandwiches to roast dinners and even themed-Thursdays, you will always find something you like. Even better, they are always wanting to hear from our students what they are liking, but also what else can they offer. The menus are available are on the school website.
You can also bring in your own snacks and packed lunches, but we also have rules that would be similar to your primary school. You can only eat at the set times, not in lessons and you must eat sitting down in the canteen or sitting down outside on the benches. Fizzy sugary drinks and chewing gum are banned.
We are a cashless school, so food and drink is paid for by students using their lanyards.
Water is available at breaks and lunches, as well as from water fountains.
