About “Go Big” by a Year 6 parent:
“This is a GREAT book for children moving from primary to secondary, and it really helps guide parents deal with some of the worries their children are having. I read it and loved the humour, but I also really loved how it encourages my daughter to not only talk about things she is worried about but also to try and look for solutions and positives. It deals with worries like having different teachers, older students, and bullying. There is a great chapter teaching children how to deal with friendship issues, which is a must read. My year 6 daughter read it and found it easy to relate to. I would definitely recommend it to year 6 students as it is a great guide for that whole first year of secondary school.”
A Year 6's review:
“This book is funny, but it also talks about true things and true worries that I have about starting secondary school. It gave me solutions that I can use and it made me feel even better about starting secondary school”
Parent of Year 6 Review on “You Are Awesome”
“My daughter read this book when she was in year 4, and she has recently re-read it during lockdown. It is an inspiring book written by an Olympic table tennis champion who argues that anyone can achieve anything that they want as long as they have the right attitude and work hard. It basically challenges children to stop thinking negatively about their potential, and to start believing in themselves. It is funny and he shares personal stories behind his success. The best part is when he explains how your brain works - my daughter found this really interesting and useful. I would say that the book has contributed to how positively she deals with challenges.”
