As far as we all know, we do not have enough teachers in schools due to budgets and the low pay, resulting in teachers pleading for more than schools are usually given. This leaves teachers to be unsatisfied with their salary as a valid reason to protest towards a higher pay.
This is believed to be an escalated problem seeing as classes are becoming more overcrowded and some students may not get extra help needed in lessons they tend to be falling behind on. Being given a low budget, schools may also result in not being able to have school trips or go places that may help improve knowledge on what the students are learning.
Some teachers are retiring but due to the low budget others do not want to replace that teacher that has quit or retired. Which could then lead to students not getting the education they need and if classes are becoming more overcrowded more students could the be losing the education they need for their future GCSE's.
In the many years the current school curriculum has been in place, it has achieved many accomplishments regarding the cultivation of students and, as a result, their progressive maturity throughout their time in education. As incredible as this is, there are still many things that need to be changed and modernised to give students not only a greater form of education, but also more enjoyment and diverse learning experiences.
As a student who has gone through many years of education and is now in their first year of sixth form, I can evidently say that I have had the full experience of the British curriculum. Throughout my time in secondary school I have learnt many life lessons and have required the education necessary for me to thrive in adulthood. The curriculum has enabled me to gain independence, understand the importance of discipline and manners, and has granted me the opportunity to decide my career path through its well-rounded education. As impactful as this may be however, the British school curriculum still has many obstacles it must overcome to enable students the full learning experience they deserve.
One particular aspect that needs to be greatly improved is the focus on creativity throughout students' education, to give them a further understanding and advantage regarding future career paths. Yes the curriculum offers multiple artistic courses, but there is hardly any influence from teachers to consider these options, and by allowing the option to feel more open to students they will not only understand the importance of creative minds as well as intellectual, but also be open to more opportunities throughout life. Another aspect that needs to improve is the lack of diversity within specific subjects of the curriculum. Subjects such as History, English, Religious studies and art lack inclusion and representation of race, gender and also have a constant repetition of similar themes. I feel shamed to say that throughout my entire education I have consistently learnt about one religion and how it relates to old white men. A change to a more diverse representation could lead to students gaining the understanding of how crucial it is for them to consider the importance of diversity and inclusivity throughout their lives in school and in the workplace, and also highlights the necessity of this togetherness to change and better not only the classroom, but also society. I know if I saw a wider representation I would enjoy the subjects more and feel I have received a higher form of education. The final aspect that I believe should be added to the british curriculum is the learning of the basic and mandatory demands essential for a students future, such as the understanding of taxes, bills and mortgages, how to properly conduct a CV and prepare yourself for an interview, and learn more about future opportunities and what they entail, such as university, apprenticeships or jobs. Giving students this information would allow them to feel more prepared and excited for their lives outside of school, and actually give them the confidence to thrive. If I received this education I would feel way more comfortable about leaving school and my future.
To conclude, yes the current curriculum has its many benefits, but with the change I've mentioned above it could thrive and grant students the ultimate learning experience needed to succeed and grow to become the best they can be in the future.
