With the influence of the media increasing in the modern world, it is no surprise that celebrities are using these platforms to their advantage. Here, I will be discussing how celebrities are doing this, by looking at some real-life relevant examples, as well as discussing the possible risks or disadvantages which come with this.
For celebrities, platforms offer an unprecedented opportunity to interact with fans, enhance their personal brand, and cultivate their loyal followers. Celebrities build their brands by sharing candid, behind the scenes photos and videos. They then use their social media platforms to showcase these products in short videos or posts and carry out reviews on said products.
An example of this is Rare Beauty, the beauty brand owned by Selena Gomez, which has thrived off of this extra opportunity for social media advertisement. For example, on Selena Gomez’s main instagram account, as well as on the Instagram accounts of many other high profile makeup artists and celebrities, Rare Beauty is highly publicised. This could be a risk because people may take advantage over the products and this could also lead to copyright. It could lead to copyright because people may take advantage of their packaging or their logo or even just the idea.
Kylie Cosmetics uses the media to its advantage by leveraging social media platforms to showcase products, engage with customers, and build a community. The brand maintains active and visually appealing profiles on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Their content strategy includes high-quality images, engaging videos, and tutorials which highlight their products and demonstrate their application. Kylie Cosmetics collaborates with influencers and beauty enthusiasts to create user-generated content that showcases diverse looks and application. But the one problem here is that the cost of the products is extremely high which means that their audience is limited to those who can afford to indulge in this, meaning others will not be able to experience and enjoy the product because of the price.
Celebrities can use their social media platforms to promote products or services that fit with their personal brand and values. Celebrities can get their followers' interest in the brands they work with by sharing sponsored posts or posting content which showcases these products. However, not every celebrity manages their own social media accounts - like the man behind the curtain. A social media manager will most likely be running a celebrity's social media accounts or ensuring that the online persona they are portraying meets the expectations of their fanbase. Some of the qualifications needed to work in this field are amongst the following: a three-year bachelor's degree in finance, media, marketing, public relations, or business management.
Celebrities also boost ratings for their TV entertainment shows and help sell their gossip magazines! In other words they make money off them, and the exposure helps to upsell celebrities’ images and their movies or TV projects! Celebrities no longer have to relay messages or content through their managers and publicists before releasing it due to the fact that they can simply get their social media team to resolve any issue - big or small.
To conclude I strongly believe that celebrities use social media to their advantage not just for themselves but also to showcase brands and products for their fans to be able to enjoy. But then I also strongly believe that some celebrities take their products and make them too expensive, ultimately limiting those who can enjoy and indulge in them.
Over the years there have been many different films that have been considered the greatest of all time. Some people say that title deserves to go to James Cameron’s Avatar (2009), some people say James Cameron’s Titanic (1997) but personally I think the greatest film of all time is Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Taking place right after Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Endgame was the conclusion to phase 3 of the MCU (marvel cinematic universe) bringing several storylines to a close. I think this is the greatest film of all time due to the buildup that led to the second most successful movie of all time. Since 2008, Marvel had been building a universal crossover between all its properties, starting with Iron Man. Marvel paved the way for the new age of superhero movies after equally successful movies like The Dark Knight from the same year. Prior to these two, many attempts had been made to create superhero movies and while lots of them were successful like Toby Maguire's Spider-man Trilogy or Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) but they never made quite the same impact that Iron Man did. From there, Marvel made films for the Hulk, Thor and Captain America before making the first big crossover movie with The Avengers in 2012. This became one of the most important Marvel movies as it became the start of the biggest cinematic universe rivalling the likes of Disney animation. Endgame was the result of hard work and effort spanning 11 years and a total of 21 films.
I love this film because of how it shows off the effort everyone went through for all these stories to connect. You can watch most marvel movies out of timeline order for them to still make sense but for people like me who watched all of these films in the intended order to fully understand the story Endgame feels incredibly rewarding. All of the cast created incredible performances especially Robert Downey Jr who portrayed Iron Man and Chris Evans who portrayed Captain America as this was the end for both their characters. Josh Brolin as Thanos continues the amazing portrayal of the character he showcased in Infinity War as well as the rest of the returning cast such as Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk and so many more talented actors.
While I think that this is the best film of all time a lot of people would disagree with that opinion and that is okay. Some people may not be fans of superhero films or the need to watch loads of films to catch up to the newest and that is completely understandable. Others might enjoy Avengers: Endgame but might find other films better and that’s perfectly okay too. A lot of people consider James’ Camerons’ films Avatar and Titanic to be the best films of all time and I can see why. When Avatar first released in 2009 there wasn’t anything like it and as such it was a technical powerhouse bringing in over $2 billion globally making it the highest box office film of all time. Titanic is regarded as the best film of all time due to its complex story and characters all revolving around the tragic events that befell the ship and everyone on board. I can see why these two films are considered by many as the greatest films of all time because each has very amazing effects and are able to tell a story that is so powerful it takes no trouble immersing you into the world the characters are in and I really enjoy that.
The reason I personally don’t agree with these opinions is because Avengers: Endgame was a film that brought a portion of my childhood full circle. Growing up I was always fascinated by superheroes and marvel movies were always on and as a result I never stopped being interested in superheroes. DC films also helped influence this but Marvel had a lot more films to choose from and as a result I was able to immerse myself into that world so much easier than with DC. When Avengers: Endgame released in theatres in 2019 me and my family went to the premiere and there wasn’t a single person in that screening who wasn’t in tears by the end. Robert Downey Jr stepping down as Iron Man and seeing this beloved character die on screen was something that a lot of people expected but still weren’t ready to realise and i was one of those people. Iron Man was the film that founded the MCU and Robert had been there from the start so to see him and Chris Evans leave their characters behind really made this film so much more impactful as a result.
I have always been a fan of comic book films and Avengers: Endgame is a perfect example of a superhero franchise done right. All the various stories created over the years had all their characters come together and create one of the biggest cinematic moments of that decade. I think Endgame is the greatest film of all time due to this exact reason. It brought new and old Marvel fans together to witness one of the biggest cinematic events of our time especially for fans of the series like myself, and I don't think that feeling is going to be captured by anything else for a while for me. Especially within the Superhero Genre.
