Week Commencing 21/04/25 Module 5 2024-2025
Mr Jon Richardson - Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your continued support and for your commitment to our academy community. Your engagement plays a vital role in the success and well-being of our pupils.
On Tuesday, we welcomed pupils back to the academy after the Easter break. It has been wonderful to see them settle in so well and transition smoothly into their routines. Observing the varied activities in the classroom this week has been a reminder of the vibrant learning environment we create together. The enthusiasm and energy displayed by the pupils are truly inspiring and serve to motivate both staff and fellow students alike.
On Thursday, we held our Year 7 Parents' Evening, and it was remarkable to see such a large turnout of parents. The atmosphere was incredibly positive, fostering constructive conversations about pupil progress and achievements. It was heartening to see so many familiar faces, as well as new ones, engaging with teachers and discussing the journey ahead.
This week has also marked the commencement of examinations for Year 11 in Art, Design and Technology (ADT), encompassing 3D design, photography, and fine art. I am thrilled to report that the quality of pupils' work has been nothing short of exceptional. Their creativity, attention to detail, and innovation reflect the skills they have developed throughout the year, and I commend their effort and commitment to their studies.
Looking ahead, we have some significant events planned for next week that are essential for our community. Firstly, on Tuesday, we will be hosting a welcome evening for new Year 6 parents and carers. This event is crucial in sharing our transition plan, ensuring that everyone is informed and prepared for the upcoming academic year. It is an excellent opportunity for new families to meet staff, learn about our values, and understand the resources available to support their children’s education.
Additionally, on Thursday, we are set to hold our Year 11 Examination Information Evening. We understand how important the next few weeks are for our Year 11 pupils as they prepare for their final examinations. This evening will provide them with vital information regarding exam protocols, revision techniques, and the support systems we have in place to help them succeed. We encourage all parents and carers to attend this informative session, as your support is invaluable during this critical time.
Thank you once again for your continued support, which greatly contributes to the positive experience our pupils enjoy at the academy. We look forward to welcoming all pupils back on Monday, ready for another exciting week of learning.
Sending best wishes,
Mr Jon Richardson

At Strood Academy, we take pride in reflecting on our progress over the past two years. As we continue our journey towards Vision 2028, we celebrate key achievements that have strengthened our academy’s culture and learning environment.
Embedding Key Routines: We have established and reinforced routines such as morning line-ups, assembly protocols, and structured transitions between lessons. These ensure students move with purpose, feel safe, and are ready to engage in learning.
Addressing 'Culture Killers': We have tackled challenges such as poor uniform standards, litter, inappropriate language, and disengaged behavior in lessons. By setting high expectations, we foster a culture where students take pride in their presentation, remain focused in class, and contribute positively to our academy community.
Standardising Homework Expectations: A consistent approach to homework has been introduced, ensuring all students understand expectations and the value of completing independent study. This supports their academic progress and develops self-discipline.
Encouraging Extracurricular Engagement: We continue to promote student participation in clubs and activities, both during lunch and after school. By offering a wide range of opportunities, we nurture students' interests, talents, and social development beyond the classroom.
Strengthening Parent & Community Relations: Effective communication with parents, carers, and the local community has been a priority. Through social media updates, Weekly Parent Bulletins, and events such as Parents’ Evenings, Year 7 Meet the Form Tutor, Parent Voice Forums, and Parental Drop-Ins, we ensure families are engaged in their child’s education. We have also introduced accessible tools like the 'Request Call Back' button and college-specific email addresses to improve communication.
We are proud of the progress we have made and remain committed to further enhancing our academy experience. While there is always more to achieve, we are excited to build on our successes and continue striving for excellence in the years ahead.
