On Wednesday 13th March, Leigh Academies Trust held their very first Maths Feast, wherein Year 10 students from all 15 LAT secondaries competed in four rounds of challenging maths puzzles, including a logical dilemma, a collaborative cross-number and geometric origami! Strood Academy came an amazing third overall! We are so proud of the students who represented Strood Academy - well done to you all!
Last week, Year 10 student Fearne and Mrs Croft travelled to Leigh Academy Rainham Food Technology Department, to compete in the LAT Bake Off 2024.
Everyone was very nervous when the judges announced " BAKE". After 90 minutes the clock was stopped and the contestants presented their "showstopping pastry creations" to the judges for tasting.
We were so very proud of Fearne when she was awarded 3rd place for her fantastic Mille Feuille Pastry multilayered cream slice! "Astonishing" and "awesome" were heard from around the room... We hope you will agree that Fearne would give Mary Berry a hard challenge to make a pastry product as delicious as her beautiful, scrumptious heart shaped pastry cream slice!
CONGRATULATIONS FEARNE our entire Strood Academy community are so proud of you!🎉🧁
This week we have been holding our end of term college celebration assemblies. Within these we have had the opportunity to celebrate all of our students' achievements throughout the term, from high levels of attendance, IB Learner Profile rewards, as well as specific subject certificates and rewards for most improved students throughout the term. We are so grateful to be able to come together as a community to celebrate our students' achievements.
And of course, it would not be a celebration assembly without an eating contest...this term being Easter Eggs! Well done to Fearne in Year 10 who was crowned champion!
Last week year 12s completed their work experience ranging from commuting to London to work in the financial sector and solicitor firms, to working in animal management, and retail.
As a sixth form we are extremely proud of the positive feedback received from the employers:
Marina from Right Tuition said Isabella was 'highly motivated' and has 'a positive attitude' and 'would not hesitate to offer her a full time job.'
Jason at A-Class Driving School said Jude was 'amazing...proactive, positive and really helpful.'
And with two students, Emily and Tarry, being offered further work experience with their employers, it's fair to say that last week was a success for our students.
Well done year 12!
Towards the end of Module 3, we introduced a number of new rewards for students including MYP Learner profile attribute badges and Friday attendance rewards. Information on these rewards can be seen below.
MYP Learner profile attribute badges can be awarded for:
Achieving 10 or more reward points in that attribute.
Completing an additional task/community project/something notable outside of their lesson time.
Individual nominations from staff members.
Friday attendance rewards: students are having the chance to be rewarded if they attend a full week at school from Friday to Thursday each week. Rewards are being given out the following Friday and students must be in attendance on that day to receive their reward. Two students per year group, per college are being awarded a certificate and a prize if their attendance is 100% during this period.
We have celebrated a number of these rewards so far and we look forward to awarding more badges, prizes and certificates to students throughout the rest of the academic year.
