Principal's Message

Mr Jon Richardson - Principal

Dear Parents/Carers

What another great week at Strood Academy. We are now at the mid-term mark and our pupils have settled so quickly into such strong routines which make our academy day flow with such ease.

This week to follow our open evening on Thursday 21st September we have held three open mornings, they have been extremely well attended and it’s been great opening our doors to our new cohort of pupils come September 2024.

Due to popular demand we have now arranged three morning open mornings, full details can be found here.

Next week we hold our Sixth Form open evening on Thursday 5th October, a great opportunity for our Year 11 pupils to learn more about the range of courses available and the excellent opportunities our pupils have within the Sixth Form. Please find all details here, and a direct link to our Sixth Form prospectus.

On Monday we had the opportunity to welcome the Strood Board to the academy for a visit. It was excellent to showcase fantastic lessons taking place and our pupils so engaged in learning. Our team of governors were extremely impressed with the progress that we are making.

Please do remember to view our extra-curricular activities, which take place at lunchtime and after school. There are a range of activities taking place and we have really enjoyed welcoming pupils to so many different clubs. It’s been brilliant to see. Please click here for full details.

This week within our college assemblies they have been led by our Head of Pastoral within each college. The focus has been European Languages day, our pupils have embraced learning about a range of other cultures. We also used this opportunity to teach our pupils the expectations of our lockdown procedure. The letter being shared with you last Friday with all details, for ease you can find the letter here.

This year we are continuing to share many events and good news stories through our social media platforms, currently we are using both Facebook and Instagram, I hope you find this useful to keep up to date with all goings on.

We have also held a review within our maths department this week with lessons being visited by a number of Trust staff. The findings have backed up what we observe on a daily basis. This includes calm, settled and focused pupils. Pupils expand their knowledge each and every lesson and strong and effective teaching and learning. We look forward to receiving the full report in which we will work closely to further improve our maths department and quality of teaching. Well done to all of our staff within this department as this showcases a great success for our academy.

Today, we held a coffee morning for Macmillan. Our pupils and staff have had the opportunity to purchase a range of cakes and treats at breaktime and lunch. What a fantastic way to support such an excellent charity.

Finally, a reminder of our parent voice forum, where your voice matters. Please do see the link here, for all details and information. We look forward to seeing you and hearing your views about how we can better our academy for all.

Have a restful weekend and we look forward to see all pupils again on Monday morning.

Regards,

Jon Richardson
