AI & Robotics Workshop
Last week, Year 9s took part in an exciting AI & Robotics Workshop hosted by Canterbury Christ Church University. The workshop explored the future of AI and Robotics, creating open discussions around AI in industries such as healthcare. Students participated by sharing their thoughts and opinions. During the workshop, students also had a chance to create their own Brisslebot!
Rufaro commented on the workshop by saying 'it was really fun and engaging'. Kieron said 'it was a great workshop and I got to make my own robot, a Brisslebot!'. Danney also mentioned that he found the workshop 'fascinating'.
9h3's Book Launch
In Literacy Hour, our KS3 students have been writing their own books using Book Creator; an amazing digital tool which allows students to design their own electronic books. They can create front and back covers, insert text, add moving gifs, stickers and even videos into their books!
As the academic year draws to a close, classes are beginning to to celebrate their wonderful achievements. 9H3 decided to plan and host a book launch, using their organisational and planning skills- as well as demonstrating teamwork and excellent communication- to make their wonderful event a possibility.
During the launch, students offered tea and juice to visitors, showcased their books, and gave each other feedback as part of a carousel. What a wonderful event- thank you 9H3!
Walkin 'N' Wheelin' Results
Congratulations to all of our students for their efforts in the Walkin' N Wheelin' Challenge last module. This commitment to a healthier lifestyle contributed to us securing an impressive second place in this challenge out of all Medway schools - great work everyone!
Reading Mentors
Our wonderful Sixth Formers (Abbey, Lauren, Chloe and Emily) have been volunteering as reading teachers this module and we are so proud of their efforts. Students in KS3 have been invited to a morning reading group where they take part in Reciprocal Reading activities for a range of fiction texts. The students have engaged so well and we are excited to see an increase in reading ages as part of our continued efforts to offer as many reading interventions as possible across the school.
What is Reciprocal Reading? Reciprocal Reading is a structured approach to help students with their reading. It uses comprehension strategies, focussing on the learners’ understanding of written text. Reciprocal reading is broken into the following categories: questioning, clarifying, summarising and predicting. Evidence proves that students who actively engage and use these strategies can improve their reading comprehension.
IB Results
Last week, we celebrated the amazing IB results achieved by our Year 13 students, with many of our students achieving a H6. We are extremely proud of our year 13s and the hard work they have put into their studies, which has resulted in the average grade being one grade higher than last year!
A well done in particular goes to Sophia who achieved a H6 in Psychology, as well as Andzhelina and Caitlin who both achieved H5 in Psychology!
Well done to all Year 13 students, we look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 15th August to collect your remaining results.
New Reward
Over the past two weeks, staff have been able to log a new reward point called 'consistently meeting expectations'. Through parent feedback it was noted that we previously do not always reward students who always 'get it right', therefore we listened and have introduced this new reward point and will also be celebrating this in our termly reward assemblies.
Students who consistently meet our expectations in terms of behaviour, uniform, line up expectations, conduct in and around the school site etc can be given this reward point and staff are ensuring that all students can be recognised each lesson for their compliance and hard work.
1279 'consistently meeting expectations' rewards points have been logged over the past 13 days and so well done to our students for continually working so hard with us to ensure that Strood Academy is committed to excellence.
