This week our Year 9 students began the 'Action' section of their MYP Community Projects.
Louis, Jaiden and Jay visited a local primary school to deliver a range of sports-based activities to the students. The feedback from this was phenomenal, with the politeness and professionalism of our students being commented on in particular. Their sessions and the activities were engaging and these students were patient with some of the young students who struggled to engage, encouraging all to get involved.
Frankie and Lily very bravely took to the stage during our staff training session on Wednesday to deliver their presentation on the 'Strood Academy Collection Drive'. Their aim is to support those within the local area facing homelessness, by coming together as a community to donate whatever items possible - from clothes, shoes and blankets, to non-perishable food items. These students showed true confidence and bravery in delivering this presentation to all members of staff, and for such an important cause!
Well done to you all - we are so proud!
On March 6th, we had our first eSports LAT match. With a truly new team, we struggled against a strong Wilmington side. Our valiant team consisted of Finlay and George, who unfortunately lost but in life we never lose. We either win, or learn. Our Strood Academy showed honour and strength and we will only get better.
Our second side, Aiden and Stanley faired better against SJWMS. We lost 4-0 but it was an even contest. We communicated exceptionally well. They were great at working together and praising one another! A great game.
After logging out we find out it is best of 5! We lose our first two games but in the third we come back. We score our first goal, and then our second. The room goes crazy! But unfortunately we lose 9-2.
We then had our excellent Yr10 Fortnite team, they were brave and the game was excellent. Unfortunately Johnny and Harry fell to a 10-5 defeat. But the games were epic and the team were excellent with communication and strategy. Well done to you all, we cannot wait to celebrate the successes of future eSports tournaments!
This week, Year 12 Biologists took part in an insect dissection on the 4th March as part of their topic on gas exchange in organisms. They took careful consideration into how they were going to dissect their locusts ethically and safely and they asked some excellent questions. A special mention to Isabella who performed a fantastic dissection!
Towards the end of Module 3, we introduced a number of new rewards for students including MYP Learner profile attribute badges and Friday attendance rewards. Information on these rewards can be seen below.
MYP Learner profile attribute badges can be awarded for:
Achieving 10 or more reward points in that attribute.
Completing an additional task/community project/something notable outside of their lesson time.
Individual nominations from staff members.
Friday attendance rewards: students are having the chance to be rewarded if they attend a full week at school from Friday to Thursday each week. Rewards are being given out the following Friday and students must be in attendance on that day to receive their reward. Two students per year group, per college are being awarded a certificate and a prize if their attendance is 100% during this period.
We have celebrated a number of these rewards so far and we look forward to awarding more badges, prizes and certificates to students throughout the rest of the academic year.
