Carpool Procedures
Carpool Procedures
The goal of carpool is to get all students home safely and to do so in an efficient manner. Please remember this when you are picking up or dropping off students. We know it can be frustrating to wait in line or for your student, but please be polite and courteous to all staff members during the carpool process.
We have carefully designed policies and procedures to accomplish these goals and they are outlined in the Carpool 101 document below. Please read in detail to determine procedures for your family. An email from the school will be sent during the summer with information regarding pick-up times, locations, and placard numbers.
Should you have questions about carpool, please contact Kevin Barnicle, Dean of Student Affairs. kbarnicle@strita.net
Important Information:
Only those students whose parents have submitted permission and whose permission has been approved by school administrators may walk or ride their bikes to and from school. These permission forms are signed annually in Magnus Health and are referred to as the “Daily Walker/Biker Rules and Permission Form” or the "Guest Walker/Biker Permission Form". Please email Kevin Barnicle, Dean of Student Affairs, for a change of transportation status to “Walker.”
SRCS considers itself a good neighbor and, as such, requires the entire school community to follow the drop-off and pick-up policies as set forth by the school.
Please note: Students who walk or bike home are not permitted to be picked up or dropped off in a car on the neighboring streets. Walkers or bikers must walk or ride their bikes the entire way home. Parking in the neighborhood causes congestion and unnecessary traffic. In the past, the school administration team has received numerous homeowner complaints and has requested that drivers move their cars during carpool time. If necessary, we will ask for police presence to enforce carpool rules.
Only students in 3rd-8th grade are permitted to walk home alone. Students in PK-2 must walk with an older sibling or parent/guardian.
In the event of a tornado warning near the end of the school day, no student will be released until the warning has been lifted. In the event of a severe thunderstorm warning with localized lightning, all walkers must be picked up through the carpool line. Information regarding either weather event will be communicated to parents through a ParentAlert text.
If students are not picked up by 3:45 p.m., they will be checked into the Extended Day program. Each student will receive three “free passes” per semester to allow for the occasional unavoidable delay (e.g., traffic or unexpected events).
After those three passes are used, any additional late pick-ups will be billed at the $30 daily drop-in rate for Extended Day, and the charges will be assessed through FACTS.
