Dr Charles Skinner
Clinical Director & Consultant in Palliative Medicine
St Peter & St James Hospice is a service offering specialist palliative care and end of life care in the heart of Sussex. We offer a dynamic, holistic approach, with a focus on individualised care and broad family support.
We are in the process of reshaping our services to create a truly integrated support for families at the right place and the right time. Though our inpatient unit remains an integral part of our work, we recognise that increasingly people want to be supported in their own homes and we are building a flexible, responsive service that can adjust to meet people’s wishes. We aim to work in a truly integrated fashion with nurses, doctors, therapists, our family support team and volunteers working cohesively to achieve our patients’ goals.
At St Peter & St James we have a team who are passionate about providing excellent care for people and their families living with advanced, life-limiting illnesses and end of life care. Though we are supporting families through difficult times, we bring a truly holistic approach - the key question is; what can we do to make the situation better. Sometimes this may be expert symptom control, sometimes it may be sorting out practical aspects of care, or providing emotional and spiritual support. Often it can be just about being there for an individual or a family - a friendly ear and an experienced voice. Our most precious resource is time, and we want to develop a team that can be thorough, flexible and compassionate at all times.
