Welcome to Mr. Duerr's Math Help pages. Please use the links in the menu bar to access help pages for specific foundation topics. These pages are set up to provide review materials for information that is traditionally mastered in lower grades but many students often struggle with. This is a new feature on my webpage. If there are additional topics you think would be beneficial for additional help videos please let me know.
Below are a few resource links you may click on for access to additional resources.
As always, the most important thing you can do when you are struggling is math is to ASK FOR HELP!
The link above will direct you to a basic set of flash cards to help drill students on their math facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In my experience the single biggest difference between students who excel in math and those who struggle is proficiency with basic math facts (there are other factors, but this has been my observed biggest indicator). As I have worked with students in tutoring from elementary level to helping high school students prepare for SATs and college students prepping for their higher level tests, having students improve on these basic math facts has completely changed their abilities in math. I cannot recommend enough how valuable practicing this cards can be.
TL;DR - Practice these flash cards to greatly improve math abilities.
Kahn Academy is a great website in which you can create a free account for additional math practice. You can search for specific topics and see videos for these topics as well as some practice problems with assistance. This is a wonderful tool and I have seen many students benefit from it's use.
Mammoth Math is a simple website that allows students to practice various skills and receive instant feedback. I find it particularly useful for students who struggle with multiples.
This website aims to relate concepts from the classroom to the real world. It helps answer the question "when will we ever use this?" by showing how math is used in a variety of professions, including music, fashion, and video games. There are then math challenges that students can attempt that are related to these fields.
