Classroom Discussion

Discussion is an important piece of classroom economics. People tend to learn better and be better participants if they understand why they are doing something. Classroom economics isn't just a fun activity to get kids to do classroom jobs. We are getting them started in being thoughtful about the financial blessings God has given them and thinking carefully about how we, as stewards, might use them.

Below are some discussion starters and activities that get kids engaged in why managing money matters. Typically, I use 1-2 of these tools each year before beginning classroom economics.

Additionally, as the students get into working with their own ledgers, questions will arise. My suggestion is to collect questions during the week, and then take 15-20 minutes on Friday for work time and discussion with the whole group. It will lead to better understanding and smoother operation.
