“Collaboratively building bridges that raise up our future”
I grew up in a small village, named New Denver, in B.C., Canada. After completing my BA, I began teaching as an ESL teacher here in Korea. I taught English language in Korean pubic schools for some years before going to UBC get my BEd. I then taught in Canadian public schools for some years before retuning to Korea to work at several international schools. One of the major pulls to bring me back to Korea time and again has been my wife. I am happily married and our family is expecting a child later this year.
In the upcoming school year my role will be to support, guide, and advise teachers, students and parents. I will strive to encourage better practices already underway at SPAS, such as with standards based learning(SBL) and reaffirming the structure and roles outlined in the system. Beyond this however, yet as a part of SBL, I would seek to encourage a culture looking into what students are taking away. To do so, one approach I am excited about fostering is the examination of student work as a source of data towards formative practice. Another area I will be placing my focuses towards developing this year will be towards coaching practices to support teachers, toward supporting students; a trickle down effect.
