Wishing you a nice day off! STAY WARM
March 13, 2020
Today, you have received your second packet. I tried my very best to present a variety of reading, math, and religion material. I have attached the "I-Ready.com" username and password. Your child knows how to use them. As I have stated, please allow them to work in each 20 minutes a day. You can log on regular home computers and Chrome books. You will also see they brought home their Superkids book and their Word Family book.
Each day you will receive a daily plan with specific directions for reading,, math and religion. If you have any questions, please email me at slang@stpatriciaparish.com . Our hours will be 8:ooam-3:00 p.m. If you need me after these hours, you may contact me.
Be sure to check the school website for our specials, such as Art, Computers, Music, and P.E. These teachers will also have lessons for the students.
Here are directions to follow the lessons given. Please make sure that you verify their work. As of March 13th, a document was attached in the packet. After the packet was sent out, a new form was supplied on the school website. Please use this form, so your child will receive credit. Please print this form out and fill it out. Your child will bring it back, when we return. Thank you for your cooperation.
Wishing you and your child a pleasant time off. Please tell them to try their best. I care about them. God bless you.
Religion- Read and discuss pp 146-147 (Letters A and B). They may color page as well. In addition, please make sure they are reciting the Hail Mary, Our Father, and Angel of God. Students should be filling out their Lenten calendar.
Reading- Log on to I-ready for 20 minutes. Review their flashcards with vocabulary words, especially Memory words. Please follow the list I gave you in the packet. They should review the words (the, of, and, a ,to). Please complete pp. 287-288 (Hand Me an a, Short a). In the Word Family Book, please complete pp. 2, 3(-ack), pp. 4,5 (-an). If those have been completed, have the students review those rhyming words. Making flashcards would be helpful. In our Superkids books, please review pp. 1,2,3,4 in their books.
Math- Log on to I-Ready.com for 20 minutes. Make sure your child is on math skills. Please complete pp. 145-146 (Identifying groups of 19-20) and (Identifying 11-20 by color). Review addition facts 0-7, by using flashcards. If they need more review, slowly start them with subtraction facts as well.
Your next lesson will be posted tomorrow. Please remember to sign on the form from the school website.
Have a nice day!
Religion- Today, we celebrate his feast day. Please remember him in your prayers. St. Patrick was a missionary. He traveled to another country to tell people about God's love. He taught the people of Ireland about God. I would like you to pray the sign of the cross. God the Father. God the Son. God the Holy Spirit. You are One. With St. Patrick, we pray for your blessing every day! Pray the sign of the cross. Look around your house to find a cross, or you may make one to share the prayer. You may also construct a shamrock. Think of each clover as a part of the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. May faith live in your hearts. Don't forget to complete the ABC Religion Booklet pp. 148-149. Today, pg. 148 is on the cross.
God bless you!
Reading- Practice learning your i-Ready lesson 20 minutes. Complete your worksheet pp. 289-290 on short e. Proceed to your Memory word sheet or Memory flashcards that you made, and keep reviewing the following words...the, of, and ,a, to. Use them in sentences as well. In your Word Family Booklet, complete pp. 6,7 (the phoneme -ank). Add these words to your flashcards. Use them in sentences. Superkids Booklet- Review pp. 1-4. In addition, make a list of "k" items in your house. Maybe you can find some pictures online to recite. Have your own show and tell with your parents. They can join you. Remember to print your letters Kk and Qq. Practice makes perfect. I hope you rare practicing your name as well. Discuss the poster on page 1, before you read the skit, The Glum Princess. What does glum mean? It means sad. Have them identify the Superkid who looks like the description (Cass). Ask what Ettabetta is dressed as? Say queen and have your child say is several times. If you say a word that begins with Q like queen, the letter q is always followed by u. Recite these words: quarter,, quilt, quick, quiz. Recite the Q pictures on p.2. Make sure you can hear the differences between K and Q. I call them the queen and king of letters. I suggest that parents keep reviewing them during the day, as a pop quiz. You can have them hop like a kangaroo, if they say any K words. If they say a Q word, have them bow to the queen. As another written review, have them print these tow sentences: Cass will act glum. It is fun to act! Practice, at least, 3 times each. Review pp. 5-6 with them. We completed these in class. Do the best you can, since we use a CD. Before tackling the skit, introduce these words- like, of, no, pick, sick, grin, contest, problem. Explain the meaning of the word and ask them to try to use it in a sentence. Please have them read only pp. 7-9. Take this slowly, it's more challenging for them. Ask questions such as ...What is the plot? problem, solution? What kind of story is this? a play or skit. Understand the characters. Determine important ideas. Draw conclusions. Make predictions. After, you read pp. 7-9. Reread it during the day. Enjoy reading!
Math-Log on to i-Ready for 20 minutes. Make sure they are on math skills. Complete worksheet pp. 139-140. Review addition facts up to 7, the same with subtraction. After reviewing, proceed to a paper or white board and show them the equations,, such as 3 +2=5 and 2+3=5, then proceed to subtraction, 5-2=3 and 5-3=2. Show them these families. Some students like number lines. Some might want to use ten frames. Some of them liked number bonds. Introduce various ways, and let them choose. But it is important, that they see equations of the two different operations (addition and subtraction). Set examples. Please remember to look at the first packet I sent you. Enclosed was a sheet with various websites. Introduce them to your child. If you want them to spend less time on the screen, I suggest taking playing cards and play Victory (War) or roll dice to join numbers (add) or roll 2 dice and then roll one to form a subtraction (take away) problem. I'm sure your child would like to play Candyland or Monopoly, or Uno.
Your next classes will be posted tomorrow. Please remember to sign your sign in sheet that you printed from the school webpage. You may also, use the one that I placed in the packet. Have a nice St. Patrick's Day!
I care about you! God Bless You!
Religion-Read and complete pp. 150-151 (E,F). They may color the pictures. There are passages from the Bible, to explain the pictures. I'd like for the children to continue their study from our Religion book in class. We completed Chapter 18-Meals are good. This lesson tells us about Jesus' last meal with his apostles. We know this meal as the Last Supper, which is Holy Thursday. Please talk to them about how special it was to Him. Did your child connect the story with Mass? Did they remember that the bread and wine shared at the Last Supper was special? Encourage them to talk about it. Tell them to imagine that they taking and eating the bread, and then, taking and drinking form the cup that Jesus shared at the last meal. Jesus was actually sharing the gift of Himself in a very special way. Jesus said, do this in memory of me. We do this, even today, at Mass with the priest. You might want your child to reenact this moment by using grape juice and bread. At Mass, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus. Jesus gives us the gift of himself in Holy Communion. In a couple of years, you'll be able to receive Holy Communion at Mass. Have the children make placemats showing God's gift of bread. Make a loaf of bread together and share it. Please remember to say your prayers.
Reading- Practice learning your i-Ready lesson for 20 minutes. Complete your worksheet pp. 291-292 (adding short e) (listen for short i). Proceed to complete your Word Family booklet pp. 8-9 (phoneme-ap). Make new flashcards for the rhyming words on the page. Try using them in sentences. Proceed to the Memory words and practice. As a warm up, practice Kk, Qq on paper. Take turns having them write duck, truck, sack, quack. Tell them that k at the end of the words is spelled ck. Superkids book- pgs. 8 & 9, review and reread. Ask some comprehension questions. Review important ideas. Do you draw any conclusions? Does the queen think a pet contest will cheer up the princess? How do you know? On page 9, identify the memory word in the first sentence. Read the page aloud. Do you think the princess will like a pet? Why or why not" If she would like a pet, do you think she would like a big pet? odd pet? a fat pet? Some other kind of pet? They should give reasons to support their ideas. Discuss the play. If the princess has lots of fun gifts, why is she still unhappy? Will a pet contest make her happy? If you were a king or queen, how would you try to make her happy. Have your child draw a picture and write 2 sentences about an animal for the pet contest. Please make flashcards for Letter Kk: kit, kick, kids, skit , duck,, sock. Qq: queen, quick, quilt, quiet *Possibly, before they go to bed, maybe they could choose a storybook for your to read. Use this for Book It for the month of March.
Math- Log in to i-Ready for 20 minutes. Complete worksheet pp. 153-154. Review their flashcard facts. First for addition, facts to 7. If they need more, challenge to 8. Try subtraction facts to 5. When they are more confident try 6 facts, and so on. They will tell you, when they can be challenged. Please make sure they have flashcards for number words zero, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Also, make cards for the words "more" and "fewer". Make sets by using blocks, pennies, or beans. Arrange two sets. Which has more, then ask which is less or fewer? Make at least 12 examples. Then show the written word: ____________ is more than ________ or ____________ is fewer than ______. One to one comparisons are important.
You could play the game "Match and More". You show a set of objects. Your child matches it, showing a set with the same number of objects, and then places more objects so the set has more.
Invite your child to design two different hats by pasting shapes on paper hats that they draw and cut out. Explain that one hat must have more shapes than the other. Have fun creating!
