Class Protocol/Procedures
All books should remain covered at all times with contact paper (EXCEPT the hardcover social studies textbook).
If your child will not be attending school on any given day, please email your child's homeroom teacher by 7:50AM with a reason for the absence. If not, an absent note must be brought in the following day. Failure to bring in an absent note will result in an unexcused absence on the report card.
At this time, ALL students are required to wear their full school uniform everyday with the exception of gym days. Students may only use 1 NUT pass per week. If there is an assigned school-wide dress down day during the week, then a NUT pass may NOT be used during that same week.
The homeroom bell will ring at 7:40AM. Any student who comes to class after the homeroom bell will be marked late.
Students are responsible for recording their class and homework assignments daily.
If a child is going to be late a note or email must be sent as soon as possible. If there will be a change in dismissal, the teacher must be notified by 12:15PM latest.
Every student must have independent reading with them at all times. E-books are permitted; however they must be used to read independently and appropriately (no pictures or sound permitted).
By 1:50PM all students must be packed and seated quietly until dismissal.
Students are responsible to empty his/her desk completely at the end of each day.
Homework Policy:
All homework must be on the student’s desk at the beginning of each new class period.
Homework is given Monday - Thursday. Occasionally, there may be an assignment given on a Friday.
Homework is to be completed by the assigned due date.
After two missing assignments, the student will receive a warning; three will result in an infraction. In the case that excessive homework is missed or incomplete, the child’s grade will be affected.
It is the student’s responsibility to complete all missed assignments due to absence. Make-up tests will be discussed with the individual teacher. Check Google Classroom daily for all class and homework assignments.
Testing Policy:
Assessments will be administered in various ways: formative/summative, quizzes, projects, multiple-choice questions, short and long written responses.
Not all assessments will have a study guide. However, review before the assessment will take place.
Writing assignments / projects must be turned in by their due date or there may be a deduction in points for each missed day. Students who are not in school on those due dates will not be penalized but are expected to turn the assignments in when they return to class.
Grading Policy:
As per the Diocese of Rockville Centre, grades will be recorded as percentages.
Chromebook
The 6th grade Chromebook must travel to and from school each day. If your child does not bring their Chromebook with them to school, it will result in a missing homework in each subject that it is being used in.
It is your child’s responsibility to make sure their Chromebook is charged. The charger must be kept at home. No child will be allowed to charge their Chromebook in school.
A separate policy and procedure will be given to the 6th Grade parents from St. Patrick School.
