Bringing in local authors
This wedge represents a current area of growth for the SASD Library Media program. Working with the Public Library and other groups in our area have given us a foundation, but we need to do more in this area.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been difficult to build our relationships with outside organizations, but we plan to address this area of growth as soon as we are able to do so. Some of our plans include:
Continue working with the SHS Fab Lab to create a mobile STEAM lab to bring to the elementary schools, the Senior Center, the Youth Center, the public library, private schools in the area, etc.
Collaborate with the local game stores to host a Family Game Night
Bring in local experts and authors to showcase their expertise to students, possibly in conjunction with the Public Library
Invite community leaders into our schools to read the books that are listed on our monthly antiracist resources; possibly have speakers related to the theme
Collaborate with organizations such as Mosaicos to create programs or events that highlight diversity and inclusion
Find more ways to collaborate with local businesses and organizations by asking colleagues in other districts what they are doing
Promote school events to the community through social media and newsletters
Possibly partner with organizations such as Dogs on Call or Healing Paws, Inc. that bring therapy dogs into schools to read with students
