"Libraries play an important role in helping people connect because our patrons trust us.” - Elisa Cruz, Council Bluffs Public Library, IA
As community anchors, libraries are natural spaces for dialogue, connection across differences, and civic engagement. One Small Step activities strengthen the library’s role as pillars of connection and help preserve local stories.
Born from a grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services, OSS Libraries unfolds across three distinct phases.
In Phase 1, we collaborated with professional advisors to develop adaptable tools and activities suitable for libraries of all sizes and resource levels. Phase 2 brings together a library community of practice cohort, providing ongoing support as participating libraries test these tools in their local communities. Finally, Phase 3 focuses on national distribution and promotion, making these tested resources widely available to libraries across the country, expanding the program's impact and reach.
