At Stopsley High School, all students have access to our external Careers Advisor, provided by Luton Council. Students are mostly offered an appointed in the Summer term of Year 10 through to the Spring term of Year 11. However KS3 students can also be referred by their Year Manager to attend an appointment.
The appointment can be used to discuss and explore your post 16 pathway and future career options, grades and skills required and other careers related opportunities that you can get involved in to develop your strengths and interests. You can also use the time to complete college/ apprenticeship applications (once you are in Year 11) and discover all the options available to you.
What is the format of the appointment?
The appointment is normally in 3 stages:
1st stage: Introductions – the purpose of the intervention - finding out what is currently going on with you - are you struggling with any issues at school, for example English or Maths. Current working grades and targets will be discussed.
2nd stage: Discussions - What are your future goals? Where would you like to study when you leave school? Have you thought about a long term career pathway? It is ok if you are unsure about the answer to these, that is the whole purpose of the meeting!
3rd stage: Action plans – What needs to happen for you to reach your goals? Is there any extra support you need with revision/ applications/ interviews?
Action plans will be uploaded to students' Unifrog accounts once received.
