In chapter 6 of Making the Journey, Christenbury points out the importance of connecting outside information to the literature taught in class. She states that students should “prefer credible information” and “develop a disposition toward rigorous research and reasoning” through passionate research projects (247). My question is: as an educator, how much of a presence should you have on the research aspect of the student and how do make sure the topics they choose won’t be controversial (parent’s opinion)?
