Whether it's back at my home in Brooklyn or the student body and faculty at Stony Brook University, I have a deep commitment to giving back to my community. Every summer I volunteer at my local food pantry and help them prepare, stock, and give out food to the community. At university, I volunteer at the Cancer Center's Food Pantry. Although it was challenging to learn two different food pantry systems, the experience proved to be rewarding as I was able to keep on doing what I loved doing in the end.
Attending Stony Brook University, I am a part of a diverse community of Asian students. I've made it my goal to become well-versed in other Asian cultures to spread awareness about the community I call home. To help further my goal I joined the Taiwanese Student Alliance where I plan and run fundraisers and events to spread Taiwanese culture to all. As a cultural organization at Stony Brook, we often collaborate with the common goal of spreading love to the cultures of the world.
Taking inspiration from my father, I sought to learn more about first responders and their line of work by joining the campus emergency response team. I always admired my father for the tremendous amount of time he dedicated to his line of work trying to provide for my family. At SB C-CERT, my sole purpose is to assist first responders with their duties by sorting and treating victims, assisting with fire suppression, and helping with crowd control.
