Welcome to my E-Portfolio! My name is Justin Lu and I am an aspiring dental student at Stony Brook University. I enjoy giving back to my community through volunteering, whether it is serving at my local food pantry or being part of the campus emergency response team. I plan on utilizing this space to showcase not only my academic journey but to also how I've integrated service into it.
In my E-Portfolio you will find my Resume with my unique experiences in mentoring, tutoring, and volunteering. In my hobbies and interests, you'll find out how I live and maintain a healthy lifestyle while also enjoying the best cuisine the world has to offer. In my academic commitments, you'll learn about my involvement on campus through both culture and service. Lastly, I've also included my LinkedIn and email if anyone would like to contact me. I hope you enjoy exploring my work and learning more about my goals and aspirations.
Being born and raised in Brooklyn, I've had the unique opportunity to experience a melting pot of cultures through the vast variety of cuisines right in my backyard. From Japanese to Peruvian food, New York is truly home to such a diverse community. You will often find me in the city with my friends trying trendy new restaurants or hole-in-the-wall places. But if I'm not getting food with friends in the city, you'll probably find me cooking up a new recipe that I found on TikTok. Being half Fujianese and half Cantonese, cooking is an outlet for me to showcase myself through the fusion of these two cuisines that I love dearly.
My journey in cooking helped me adopt an open mind to learn about respective cultures and viewpoints. We are all human, yet every individual has their unique expression and method of thought that acts as their "flavor profile". Our ways of thinking may clash, but it is this clash of "flavors'' that gives birth to new creations. By immersing myself in the spectrum of flavors, I will take in a variety of cultures to expand my palate so that the flavors come through in different areas of my life. I will bring an open mind in hopes of discovering the ideas and dishes that remain hidden right under our noses. From food to people, there is room for all.
