ALL STRAIN & NO SHAKE
In his youth, Geralt Graham was barfly notorious for starting fights, til one day when he picked a fight with the wrong guy and lost his arm. Geralt was banned from the local bar. 10 years later Geralt returned to the bar a changed man with a passion for mixing drinks. Using his prosthetic arm custom made for bartending, He is enjoying his new life as the owner.
FACING GLORY
When brainstorming about prosthetic, I remembered a person I met who was a part of a foreign aid medic to Ethiopia. He told me that he specializes in dentistry and his role was in facial reconstruction, for Ethiopian soldiers with ballistic wounds to the face because of, for example, peace keeping force (this was before the most recent civil war). Facial reconstruction is very challenging and unfortunately even when the victim’s life is saved, the damage to function and the antithetic is often permeant. On top of the disability, the victims are often stigmatized due to their looks.
I understand it might be technically infeasible. Maybe in the future, if precise 3d mapping and printing can allow prosthetic to be reconstructed on top of damaged bones with minimal pain. Instead of just make the prosthetic match the original, they can be modularly customized to be like medals (or ribbons), to be worn with pride and make people recognize their sacrifices.
On top of that, Ethiopia has a very rich history of architecture and art, especially stone carving. Such as the Axum obelisk and the stone churches of Lalibela are just some examples. So in this particular idea, I also wish to incorporate Ethiopian elements.
