Jobs disappearing by Climate Change

A large amount of jobs are expected to disappear because climate change has a large impact on the way people work, the way things are produced, and the decision of where they are produced in the future.

Fossil fuel industry

Jobs that are related to old technology that are destructive to the environment. Especially in the future, we will face a lack of energy, so we will change the method of energy production. As people move to a new technology system there would be many jobs that would perish.

Farmers

As the climate changes, It is going to have effect on agriculture industry. Certain regions would become unable to be farmed when desertified or the sea level arises by climate change.

Outdoor workers

Internation Labour Organization (ILO) explained that “rising temperatures and increasing heat stress at work will lead to 80 million full-time jobs and global economic losses of $2.4 trillion in 2030.” Outdoor workers like farmers or builders will be mainly affected by rising temperatures.

Tourism

Climate change causes snow-crapped mountains to melt, natural disasters, and increasing temperature. The irregular weather changes will make tourists not go on vacation. This situation will negatively affect tourist business.

Possibility of collapse of capitalism system

Beyond the effect on job market, some argue that capitalism itself emits carbon. In fact, this is a matter of a huge political and economic structure and ideology beyond the discussion of science or specific policies. The argument is not off the point.

From this point of view, it is criticized that the capitalist system is extremely energy-wasting, because of its infinite profit-seeking, wasteful desire of production and sales that excessively consume energy, and emit carbon. In addition, the working class must actively participate in resolving global warming. Most agree from this point of view that infinite development of science and technology is not an "absolute goal" or that it is wrong to maintain current amount of consumption of science and technology.
