URGENT: Google meet issues
Hello Everyone,
There have been some ongoing google meet issues that we must address.
When a google meet is created in the calendar or when you go to google meet and click continue to start a meeting it uses a random meeting code that doesn't expire for 90 days. This is set by google and there is no way to change it.
The issue is that students are joining these meetings after they have been used for their original purpose and could be using them for a variety of reasons that are not acceptable by SEA.
Effective immediately, do NOT use the automatically created meet codes, Please use a nickname
For most meetings using a nickname is best.
When you go to meet.google.com and click start or join a meeting you can type in a name which will only be valid for that meeting. Once you are done with the meeting, make sure everyone has left and close the meeting. This meeting won't be accessible by students again unless you start the meeting again.
To make it easy to share, you can use this link http://g.co/meet/NICKNAME
If you replace the word NICKNAME with the nickname of your meet it will connect directly.
Here is a video to show a demonstration.

Another issue is if strangers join a meet. There could be major issues with this including this example that police are investigating..
PLEASE turn quick access off for meet so you can control who is joining.
We will be working closely with the school admin at each school and with SEA to make sure everyone is educated on this MANDATORY process for using google meet.
If you have any questions or need some help with this, please let me know and we will gladly assist in this change.
Thanks for your continued assistance to keep our schools and technology safe for our students.
