IF YOUR CHILD IS SHOWING SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19, PLEASE STAY HOME AND GET THEM TESTED IMMEDIATELY. IF YOUR CHILD TESTS POSITIVE, PLEASE EMAIL cases@stonefields.school.nz
Keeping you in the loop is a priority. To ensure you are not overwhelmed with emails and communications from the School over the coming weeks, we will send you a weekly email on Thursdays with the link to this page so you can view the case summary. This information is available to you to access at any time should you require more frequent updates. Please note that we will no longer be emailing each hub when we are notified of a new positive case.
Where a staff member tests positive, or needs to isolate due to being a Household Contact, you will be advised of any changes to your child's learning (i.e reliever teachers and/or learning from a distance because we can't staff a hub adequately).
We want to reassure you that it is recommended for learners who are not exhibiting any symptoms to remain at school.
We have solid health and safety practices in place, including:
Good mask wearing practices are in place inside our hubs
Good hand-washing and hygiene practices
Learners take frequent breaks outside to reset the learning space
Our classrooms are well ventilated and we offer opportunities for outside learning whenever possible
As we have now moved to Phase 3 of the Omicron Response, only household contacts of a confirmed case are required to self-isolate. All other contacts of a COVID-positive are not required to isolate, however please continue to monitor for symptoms and get tested should any develop.
Please see the 'Testing Positive for Covid' and 'What to look out for: Symptoms of Covid-19' sections below for further information.
If your child tests positive for Covid-19, they will need to stay home and isolate for 10 days.
Everyone else in your household becomes a household contact, and will also need to isolate for 7 days.
The 7 day period is counted from Day 0 - the day that symptoms started or, if non-symptomatic, from the day of the positive test. Your child is able to return to school, provided that they are well and symptom-free for 48 hours, once the 7-day period has passed, i.e on Day 8.
For example:
If your child tests positive on a Monday, this will be their day 0
They will need to isolate until the following Monday, day 7.
Provided that they are well and symptom-free for 48 hours, they can leave isolation, and return to school, on Tuesday of the following week, day 8.
Your child does not need to be tested again, or return a negative test, before ending their self-isolation; a further test would likely result in a positive, even though they would no longer be infectious.
What Household Contacts need to do
Household Contacts are required to take a test on Day 3 and Day 7 of the isolation period.
Household Contacts can complete their isolation at the same time as the positive case, as long as their Day 7 test was negative and they have no new symptoms.
