Year 0-2
End of Term Two Update
Mānawatia a Matariki | Happy Māori New Year!
Tēnā koutou katoa,
As we near the end of Term 2 we reflect on a term packed with learning and memorable events like the Book Fair and Style Your Bike Day. It is great to see the learners immersed in their learning, using the learner qualities and the learning process to support them.
Thank you to all the parents and learners who attended the Learner Led Conferences (LLCs) recently. It was wonderful to see our learners confidently share their learning and next steps with you. This was a valuable opportunity for you to get a progress update from your child's teacher too. Thank you to the many parents who have shared their feedback about the value of the LLCs. If you missed your child's LLC and progress update, please see your child's teacher to book some time for this.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new learners and families who started during the term. We look forward to welcoming you at the Term 3 Pōwhiri, on Monday 22 July at 9am.

Happy Matariki - "Mānawatia a Matariki"
As it is Matariki time, the learners are exploring the significance of Matariki and the customs and traditions observed. They are learning about the cluster of stars that reappear in our night sky and that this is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate the future and make wishes for the year ahead.
We hope you can join us for our Matariki Hikoi on Wednesday 24 July when we walk up Maungarei at dawn.
Term 2 Concept - Community and Inclusion
For concept this term, learners explored parts of the Mighty programme. Some of the learning experiences they were immersed in are opportunities:
to identify and talk about who they are
to discuss and share how they are connected to the people in their lives - their family, school community and the wider community
to compare differences and similarities between themselves and others as a way to demonstrate mana, and to respect each other's mana.
During Exploring Through (ET) art sessions, the Hub 1 and 2 learners integrated some of their concept learning into their artwork.
The learners listened to the Colour Monster story and identified some of their feelings. They discussed these feelings and took part in role-play which they were fully engaged in. The learners then created a pastel and dye art piece to capture one of their feelings.
Please drop by Hubs 1 and 2 to see your child's artwork.
"I like to be calm when I go to bed." by Charlie Hub 2
"When I am doing maths questions I use 'think' to help me decide the best strategy to solve the problem. I use my fingers to help me count on". by Arya Hub 5
During ET for Hub 5 and 6 learners, they have made connections with how they use the learner qualities in their everyday lives. We have been so impressed with our tamariki, using the learner qualities in their learning and applying them to their wellbeing.

We're excited to welcome to the Hub 1 teaching team Dory De Gradi. Dory will be joining us at the start of Term 3, three days per week.
Dory is very familiar with the school having worked here back in 2022 as a student teacher. Dory has now completed her qualification and had a baby. Dory will bring loads of enthusiasm and care for our learners, we are thrilled to see her back.
