Michelle Rios, M.A Higher Education 2021
Michelle Rios' M.A 21 is a Graduate Student pursuing her masters in Higher Education at Montclair State University. She graduated with her Bachelors in Child Advocacy and Policy with a minor in Social Work. Michelle considers herself as a late bloomer, as she did not get involved on campus until her last undergraduate year. In a short amount of time, she joined Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated and joined The Office of Commuter Life as a Student Assistant. These quickly jump-started her career in Higher Education where she learned the importance of student programming, mentorship, leadership, and her love for impacting college students. Michelle aspires to work with First-Generation, incoming college students to ensure they have a positive college experience.
Maya Alicea, Biology - pre professional studies '22
Maya Alicea '22 is a budding biology major with dual minors in behavioral neuroscience and cannabis studies. After Graduating from Camden County College ('19), her advocacy with nontraditional/neurotypical and first- generation students has been known throughout her semesters at Stockton University. As a highly engaged member in many organizations and on campus, she was able to instruct professors on improving ways to aid first-generation and neurotypical students. She is involved on numerous e-boards, independent advocacy (EOF, accessibility, neurotypical and racial disparities) and S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), focused advocacy as well. After Stockton University, she plans to apply to a Master's of Public Health program focusing in Epidemiology (infectious disease) and to work part-time within the field of biology/medicine.
Cielo Figueroa Bravo, Health Sciences
Cielo Figueroa Bravo '22 is a health sciences major with a minor in public health. She was a part of the 2018 Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) summer program at Stockton University and a math instructional assistant for the 2019 EOF summer program. She is involved in numerous clubs, university jobs, and her sorority, Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Incorporated. After graduating from Stockton, Cielo is planning to obtain her Masters in Physician Assistant. She aspires to work as a physician assistant (PA) in disadvantaged communities.
Amanda Logie, Conservation and Agroecology
Amanda has always been interested in the environment and the way it has been affected by humans. Her main interest however is in agriculture and food distribution. Food deserts are areas that lack grocery stores and access to quality fresh food. This typically affects low-income communities. Another reason Amanda wants to go into agriculture is because Latinas are typically underrepresented in farm ownership. Amanda also wants to push for restorative agriculture as it is effective at getting food to the table and also reduces the harm caused by pesticides and fertilizers.
Lucy Martinez, Mathematics
Lucy '21 grew up in Guatemala from ages 3 to 14. She started her career at Stockton University in 2017 and participated in the EOF summer program. In summer of 2018, Lucy came back to EOF as the first EOF Latina math instructional assistant. A year later, she attended the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Undergraduate Program (MSRI-UP) in Berkeley, CA where she participated in a math research group. At Stockton University, Lucy is one of the founders and co-president of the Stockton Women in Math (SWIM) organization which is a newly chapter of the National Association for Women in Math (NAWM). As a recipient of the 2021 NSF-GRFP, Lucy decided she will be attending the math Ph.D. program at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Her future goals include working as a mathematician, collaborating with undergraduates on research projects and strengthening representation for Latinas in mathematics.
Aracely Morales, Biology
Aracely Morales '23 is a sophomore at Stockton University, majoring in Biology with a minor in Business Studies. She was part of the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) 2019 summer program. After graduating from Stockton, she plans to attend medical school to become a neurosurgeon. She wishes to be able to provide services to underrepresented communities.
