*Important information regarding acceptances for Maggie Walker, Open, and Community*
During the summer of 2023, Richmond's school board voted to change the acceptance criteria for these schools in order to have a student body that was representative of the greater Richmond community. There are now 3 phases to the selection process.
Phase 1: The top 3 scoring candidates for the 8 Richmond middle schools AND the top 3 scoring candidates among homeschooled or private school students are automatically accepted. This accounts for 27 seats.
Phase 2: The next set of offers are given to the top scoring applicants (regardless of school) who meet "economically disadvantaged" criteria. This will account for 50% of the total seats available. Any students from phase 1 who meet the ED criteria do count towards the 50%.
Phase 3: Any remaining seats are offered to the next top scoring candidates. However, there are only 5 seats reserved for homeschooled/private school students. This means there are 8 total spots for homeschooled/private school students.

If TeeJay is your zoned home school, you are automatically part of the IB program. If it is not your zoned school, you may apply during the open enrollment lottery. More information about the process can be found here. In eleventh grade, students move into the "Diploma Programme." At this point, students who want to transfer into TeeJay can apply through the specialty center application process.
