Title
The Affects of Salinity in Water to Different Types of Plant Life.
Question
How Do Different Amounts of Salinity in Water Affect Types of Plant Life?
Materials
Spaghetti algae plant (saltwater)
Microsorium pteropus plant (freshwater)
4 Flasks
Rubber bands
Plastic rap
Salinity meter
Aquarium Salt
Water
Method
Fill a flask with water.
Pour salt into the water.
Measure the salinity level using a salinity meter.
Place our fresh water plant inside the flask.
Measure the growth of the plant throughout the time in the water.
Take pictures of the plants to see the color change.
Fill a flask with water.
Place our saltwater plan t inside the flask.
Mausure the salinity level of the plant.
Measure the growth of the plant throughout the time in the water.
Take pictures of the plants to see the color change.
Place our base plant in a flask filled with water.
Add salt to make the plants natural salinity level.
Track the plants growth throught its time in the water.
Hypothesis
Our hypothesis is that as we change the amount of salinity that our plants are use to, the plants growth will be affected. With a change in the saline level we believe that this will start to kill the plant. We believe that the plant will start to turn yellow\brown and the plants growth would stop. For our fresh water plant we will need to increase the saline level to see results because of the plants lower natural saline level. Contrary to our fresh water plant our salt water plant will need to be placed in freshwater to see differences.
