For our DEEP project, we will be creating an underwater ROV. Our underwater robot will be equipped with an ultrasonic sensor. This will allow us to moniter depth in different locations. Our robot is designed to make multiple passes over a target area, usually in a time span of about one to two years. After each mission, we will log the gathered data and upload it to a software. Over time, we will be able to detect changes in patches of coral from both the sensors, and the camera. If coral is all of a sudden missing in a certian area, and is in a pattern, we will be able to tell that it has been affected by commercial fishing, and the nets that come along with it. We can then take this newly gathered infromation and then once it is uploaded, we we will have a complete 3D map of the area. We will then hand this off to the fisherman, and California Fish and Wildlife. They have a more established name, in the industry, and will be able to better share this information with the fisherman, and their crews.
