There are 4 sub-species of anacondas in South America, with the largest being the green anaconda, which can be up to 10 metres long!
Anacondas are most frequently found in basins of the Amazon River, Orinoco River and Los Llanos. They are semi-aquatic animals: living partly on land and partly on water.
Anacondas can kill and eat prey up to their own body weight, allowing them to take on large prey such as: caimans, wild pigs and even jaguars!
An anaconda's Greek name is Eunectes Murinus, meaning 'good swimmer'.
They can live over 30 years when kept in captivity.
They give birth to live young.
