Late Adds, drops & requests

All students are required to self-register for the courses in the upcoming term based on their Program of Study, during the registration period. If the registration period has ended and you have not yet taken action, or need to revise your schedule, please take note of the following steps:

  1. The add/drop period begins on the first day of the term and lasts for 1 week (Fall and Spring terms).

  2. After the add/drop period is over, there is a one week late request period, which will enable you to either add or drop a single course (find form below).

  3. Finally, the late course adjustment period extends your time to add/drop into week 4 of the term. You may not add to your schedule past the last day of the 4th week of the term (find form below).

  4. If it is past the 4th week of the term, please petition the Dean's Office for an extension to the add/drop period.

  5. You may petition to withdraw from a course (without academic penalty) up until week 10 of the term. After week 10, you will receive an F grade for the course and be responsible for full tuition.

Add/Drop Period

The add/drop period begins on the first day of the term and lasts for 1 week. During week one of both the Spring and Fall Term, students will be able to register and/or drop courses from their schedule online while logged in to GaelXpress 2.0 called 'Add/Drop Week'. (For instructions and support on how to complete these actions, click here.) Students may add and/or drop courses with no penalty during this week. During the Summer Term, add/drop will be a period of the first two days of the term.

To add a course, students will first need to contact the instructor of the course they are wanting to add to be granted add authorization through course permissions on the GaelXpress2.0 Faculty portal. Once add authorization has been provided, students should be able to self-register on GaelXpress2.0. Common challenges registering for students include Business Office restrictions, schedule conflicts, and re-attempts. For Business Office restrictions please dial 925.631.4209. In regards to re-attempting courses and registration assistance please dial 925.631.4214 for the Office of Registrar.

To drop a course, students may self-drop by simply logging on to their GaelXpress 2.0 portal to do so.

Late Request

This is to be used if an action is required after the add/drop period has ended. Please select the Late Request option found under the Registrar's Office Special Action Petition.

The form will direct you to the Registrar's Office's Special Action petition (this is different from the KSOE Special Action petition). Make sure you're logged in through SMC, fill out the top portion, and select "Late Request."

If you are dropping your entire schedule you would need to take a Leave of Absence. Please reach out to the Business Office to confirm whether or not you would be eligible for any tuition refund as well as the Financial Aid Office if you have requested aid.

Late Course adjustment

Late Course Adjustment period starts after the drop/add and late request periods have ended:

  • There is a fee of $20 per added course through week 4.

  • You may submit the drop request, if you never attended. (If you have attended and want to drop, please submit a petition to withdraw from a course.)

  • You may only submit the add request if you have attended since the first day of classes.

The Registrar will no longer accept late course adjustments after week 4 and late course adjustments are only accepted for the current term.

Please use this Late Course Adjustment form.
