Catholic School Philosophy of Education
I wholeheartedly believe in the Catholic faith and community. I have six children, four of whom have already graduated from Catholic schools and two attending St. Mary's in the fall. Catholic schools offer a safe and supportive faith-based environment for our children to develop a high level of academic excellence. Catholic schools strive to develop every student’s “mind, body, and soul” with virtues and faith-based learning. The core values teach our children self-discipline, commitment, respect, acceptance of responsibility, and especially make decisions based on the teachings of their faith. This environment provides every student with a personal and close relationship with the Catholic faith and our Lord and Savior. Furthermore, I can always call on technical support, co-workers, or administration when I need guidance. In the Catholic school environment, I can call on a higher authority. No matter the situation, I know I can ask for His help and guidance and thank Him for his blessing and our abilities. Our Catholic faith reassures us that no matter what, God’s love for us is unconditional, and He will be there whenever we need to call on Him.
Philosophy of Education
Teaching is not only a process of delivering information. It is also a process of learning from colleagues, parents, the community, and my students. I wholeheartedly believe that an educator has a duty to enter the classroom with an open mind and the highest expectations of each student as an individual. The classroom becomes a caring environment where students can feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their ideas while blossoming and growing along the way. I will present a curriculum to incorporate individual learning styles so that each student can express themselves and accept themselves for who they are. Along with helping students achieving to their full potential, as a teacher, I can encourage them to embrace the differences of others. Every classroom is unique; a variety of students creates a diverse classroom community. It is my duty to present to my students every day a caring, positive attitude, along with consistency, and a challenging yet rewarding environment that will sow the seeds and encourage students to reach their full potential.
I have been married to Dave, a Metallurgical Engineer, since 1997. We have six children: Liam, 8; Gabby, 10.5; James, 20; David, 22; Lucy, 24; and Cassandra, 27. James is studying accounting and computer science at ISU, and David is studying electrical engineering. Lucy recently graduated with multiple degrees from the University of Rochester in New York and has just completed a year-long internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in the endocrinology laboratory. She is currently enrolled in med school. Cassandra is married to Bradley (Spradlin.) My grandson, Zavier, 4, is expecting a little sister in October. They are currently stationed at Fort Lenard Wood, Missouri. We have two dogs, Francis and Pepper, as well as numerous birds, mice, and three grand puppies: Bear, Ollie, and Russell. I hold multiple Bachelor's degrees in the fields of Psychology, Social Sciences, and Education, as well as a Master's degree in Elementary Education. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Educational Leadership. I have taught in various classrooms, from special education to an alternative/safe school, held a position as a job coach, and served as a school librarian for seven years. I enjoy cooking, reading, crocheting, traveling, fishing, kayaking, sports, and spending time with my family.
