Catholic School Philosophy of Education
I wholeheartedly believe in the Catholic faith and community. I have six children, four of whom have already graduated from Catholic schools and two attending St. Mary's in the fall. Catholic schools offer a safe and supportive faith-based environment for our children to develop a high level of academic excellence. Catholic schools strive to develop every student’s “mind, body, and soul” with virtues and faith-based learning. The core values teach our children self-discipline, commitment, respect, acceptance of responsibility, and especially make decisions based on the teachings of their faith. This environment provides every student with a personal and close relationship with the Catholic faith and our Lord and Savior. Furthermore, I can always call on technical support, co-workers, or administration when I need guidance. In the Catholic school environment, I can call on a higher authority. No matter the situation, I know I can ask for His help and guidance and thank Him for his blessing and our abilities. Our Catholic faith reassures us that no matter what, God’s love for us is unconditional, and He will be there whenever we need to call on Him.
Philosophy of Education
Teaching is not only a process of delivering information. It is also a process of learning from colleagues, parents, the community, and my students. I wholeheartedly believe that an educator has a duty to enter the classroom with an open mind and the highest expectations of each student as an individual. The classroom becomes a caring environment where students can feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their ideas while blossoming and growing along the way. I will present a curriculum to incorporate individual learning styles so that each student can express themselves and accept themselves for who they are. Along with helping students achieving to their full potential, as a teacher, I can encourage them to embrace the differences of others. Every classroom is unique; a variety of students creates a diverse classroom community. It is my duty to present to my students every day a caring, positive attitude, along with consistency, and a challenging yet rewarding environment that will sow the seeds and encourage students to reach their full potential.
I have been married to my husband, Dave, a metallurgical engineer, since 1997. Together, we have been blessed with six children: Cassandra, Lucinda, David, James, Gabriella, and William. Our family continues to grow joyfully. Cassandra and her husband, Bradley Spradlin, are the proud parents of our two grandchildren, Zavier and baby Charlie, currently stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Our older children are pursuing their own callings in remarkable ways. James is studying accounting and computer science at Illinois State University. David is majoring in electrical engineering. Lucy graduated with multiple degrees from the University of Rochester in New York, completed a year-long internship in the Mayo Clinic’s endocrinology laboratory in Minnesota, and is now following her vocation in medical school. Gabby and Liam keep our home active, creative, and full of laughter.
We also share our lives with a menagerie of pets: our loyal and goofy dog, Francis; a collection of birds and mice; and three beloved grand-puppies: Bear, Ollie, and Russell. They make every day a little brighter.
My own academic and professional journey is grounded in a deep commitment to service, faith, and lifelong learning. I hold multiple bachelor’s degrees in Psychology, Social Sciences, and Education, as well as a master’s degree in Elementary Education. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Educational Leadership. For more than 30 years, I have served in a wide variety of educational settings, including special education classrooms, alternative and safe school programs, job-coaching roles, and seven years as a school librarian. Each position has strengthened my belief in the dignity, potential, and God-given gifts of every child.
In my free time, I love cooking, reading, crocheting, traveling, fishing, kayaking, playing sports, cheering on my favorite sports teams, and spending meaningful time with my family. My faith, my home, and my work with students continue to be the heart of everything I do.
