National Read Across America Day is March 2nd, so we will be celebrating the whole month of  March!  I would like to invite any parents, grandparents, relatives, or other special people to surprise your child by being a “Mystery Reader” this year in our classroom. Students will LOVE having their family, friends, and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class. This will replace our weekly Tell-n-Show.

Mystery Readers will visit us daily. Mystery Readers are asked to bring a book to read from home that may be a child’s favorite or a new surprise. You do not have to read for the entire 30 minutes, but you have 30 minutes if you need it. You will also be asked to send in clues about yourself during the week so the class can guess who might be coming to read. I sent a Sign-Up Genius email with available dates and times.

Here is a sample set of the kinds of clues you might give:

1. My favorite book when I was little was Charlotte’s Web.

2. I was the youngest child in my family growing up.

3. My family has one dog as a pet.

I will start with clue #1 and end with clue #3. As you get closer to clue #3, you should make your clues a bit more revealing so that your child starts to recognize some of the information in the clues. It is so fun when students realize that their parents have written the clues and will soon be reading to our class! You can email me your clues or send them in a "Top Secret” envelope.

Remember, you are a mystery to the class, so try not to tell your child when you will be coming! Please see me or drop me a “secret” note or email if you have any further questions. We can’t wait to meet our Mystery Readers! The goal is for each child to have one visitor during the month.
