GCSE Dance at St Marylebone is an exciting practical course which challenges our students to develop their creative, physical, emotional and intellectual capacities, through the study of dance performance, choreography and appreciation. Over two years, students will develop their ability to choreograph, perform and appreciate dances in practical and theoretical lessons, by observing, discussing and actively exploring dance styles, performance skills and choreography.
Students will critically analyse, interpret and evaluate their own work in performance and choreography and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of professional practice using the GCSE Anthology of 6 professional works. The anthology's mix of artistic, cultural and aesthetically diverse works, will broaden students' knowledge and understanding of the wide range of dance choreographed and performed in the United Kingdom today.
You don’t have to want to be a professional dancer or choreographer to do GCSE Dance; not everyone who studies Dance becomes a dancer!
Dance can teach you valuable skills transferable to other professions.
The types of skill you will gain on this course:
Choreographic, performance and analytical skills
Dance technique and understanding of professional training
Critical thinking skills
Analytical and Evaluative skills
Creative and artistic skills
Non-verbal communication skills, confidence and presentation skills
Physical skills including fitness
Team working skills and the ability to work independently

Vocational training is highly specialised, and designed to prepare you for a professional career in the dance, theatre and musical theatre industries.

There are many vocational schools to choose from, some even residential. Take a look at the Council for Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre (CDMT) website to find out more about vocational training, the different schools/colleges/conservatoires and how you can apply.
