In 1st and 2nd Grade we use Dr. John Feierabend's First Steps in Music curriculum which focuses on creating young musicians who are beatful, tuneful, and artful.
Beatful: Students can feel the steady pulse (the beat!) in a piece of music through fingerplays, movement exploration, and expressive Move It performances.
Tuneful: Students can use the different parts of their voice to carry a tune. They can listen to a model and echo after them as well as learn longer songs to perform with accompaniment. We also work on making our own tunes through improvisation!
Artful: Students explore different types of music and talk about the context and meaning of songs. We use our bodies, voices, and facial expressions to tell the story of a piece of music!
Most of all, we have fun learning more about ourselves and the world around us!
*Students in K3-5th grade will be participating in the Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 11th at 1:00PM and 6:30PM.
