While many changes should be implemented, leaders have a different responsibility in making sure policies are addressing important ecological problems.

CUTTING EMISSIONS

Firstly, it's important for leaders to start cutting emissions and make internal change. There are various treaties, and incentives to start a carbon markets, however this is not enough. To be able to make change, we have to be able to understand the issue first. We should be holding other world-wide leaders accountable and make sure those who emit the most are willing to make the most change.

IMPORTANT INITIATIVES

Pledging and moving forward strong climate commitment like the European Union “Green Deal”

It has the potential to reduce more than 0.6 billion tons of emissions per year by 2030, if the EU cuts emissions by 50 percent. Even more is possible if they move the target to a 55 percent cut.

Strengthening China’s Paris Agreement target

China is one of the biggest emitters in the world, therefore working close with them, asserting change and including the nation in this sort of action taking can have a positive impact in the whole world. Initiatives have begun, like for example cutting coal emissions by 9.4 percent, however this is not enough and more is necessary. Not only should we focus on China, every country in the world should be showing initiative because otherwise no change would be able to be achieved.

Transitioning India’s economy to low-carbon

Moving forward with alternative energies India can develop a low-carbon pathway, shifting away polluting and emitting sources of energy. If the right initiatives are implemented by 2030 India can reduce its emissions by at least 0.6 billion tons per year. India also continues to advance in energy-efficient buildings, appliances, and transportation. India has to keep working to fight air pollution and avoid lock-in of carbon-intensive infrastructure.

Nature-based solutions

Nature-based solutions to climate change which include taking care of biodiversity and protecting natural reasons are extremely important. Unfortunately, governments and businesses that committed to halve tropical deforestation by 2020 have not lived up to their promises.

Switch to electricity generated by energy sources with low emissions of carbon dioxide. These alternative energies could include solar, wind, etc. energy.
