Fifth Grade

DISCOVER 5Sacraments

The founder, Saint John Baptist de La Salle, believed that God’s word is powerful in touching hearts. We still believe that today, which is why we’ve created a faith formation program that puts The Catholic Children's Bible at the center.

Each child receives their own Discover Kit, containing everything they need for their exciting faith journey. Children will dive into Bible stories in their own Catholic Children's Bible to encounter Jesus through the stories and people of scripture. Then, they get out of their seats for a built-in energetic learning activity that helps build a meaningful lesson. Next, they connect the Bible story and hand-on activity with Catholic doctrine through age-appropriate prayers, puzzles, and challenges in their Activity Book. Watch as they connect the dots and transform a learned faith into a joyfully lived faith!

Karen Grahn - Catechist

I have been a catechist at Saint Mark since 2016. I originally started teaching 1st grade, but have also taught 4th grade, and am currently teaching 5th grade. I have enjoyed it much more than I anticipated. I love teaching the kids and seeing their excitement. It gets me excited too. They ask so many great questions (that I more than once have had to google.) I learn something new from them every week. I also lead the Children’s Liturgy Ministry. I started in that Ministry when my own girls would attend and now they are catechists right along with me.

My husband, David, and I have been members of St. Mark since 2011 when we only had two daughters, ages 1 and 3. We now have three daughters, ages 10, 11 and 14. Many of you have watched them grow from babies to little ladies who are now taller than I am. We feel blessed to have been able to raise Kendall, Hannah and Jenna in this parish. We live in the Greystone community. I work in banking and have been at ServisFirst Bank since 2011.

Barbara Zieba - Catechist Aide

This is my first year with PSR and I am really   looking forward to it. I have been volunteering at St. Mark Nursery for 10 years and I also was a volunteer at the Italian Festival that our parish hosted in the past years. I am excited to work with Karen and 5 graders - I know it will be fun.

I was born and raised in Poland and came to USA in 2001 with my husband who is also Polish. We moved to Alabama  from Michigan in 2008 when our oldest daughter was 1. We call Chelsea our home town and we have 3 children: Veronica (15), Caroline (11) and Matthew (7). I work for Coca Cola United Bottling Company  in the accounting department. I love traveling, cooking, trying new cuisines/ foods, crafts, music and volunteering.
