STEM teachers and leaders participate in a continuous program of STEM specific professional learning.
NARRATIVE
The faculty members at St. Louis School (SLS) regularly receive professional development to support the seamless integration of proven STEM education methods into the classroom. Through regular planning, our educators are always provided opportunities to stay current on STEM practices and receive ongoing training in the use of technology. For example, several teachers have attended the yearly STEM workshop held at the US Naval Academy, and all staff members participate in the professional development offered by Discovery Education. Teachers use interactive white boards, MIMIO Teach, Discovery Education tools, website resources including Khan Academy, and more in their daily instruction. To expand their proficiency in the use of technology, teachers are provided with in-service development at the start of each school year, and new staff members receive technology training before the school year begins in order to maintain our high standards. In addition, to support our teachers as they navigate through the digital world, SLS has established an integrated Help Desk Ticket System and an online Sign Out system for the classroom iPad and Chromebook use. Professional learning for all our STEM educators is based on their individual needs, and professional learning programs are established with the SLS STEM program in mind.
