Please have your child practice writing their name with 1 capital letter and the remaining lowercase letters. This is the first fundamental skills we will practice stating kindergarten!
Students will be learning how to use 3-star coloring and putting forth their best effort, this means
1-coloring neatly in the lines
2-filling in all the white spaces
3- using colors that make sense
Students will be receiving letters grade on their work to show how they are progressing in class. This is a goal to help them build their skills and get better at their work.
P- proficient means they are on target, writing neatly, coloring within the lines, doing quality work.
D-developing means they are working to get better on improving their skills, but need a little work.
N- needs improvement, means they are rushing through their work, not completing in a timely manner, messy writing or not trying.
Daily 5 Rotations - Students will learn to navigate through Daily 5 stations and work independently and in small group to grow their reading, language skills and phonemic awareness.
Guided Reading: Students are placed into reading groups based on their reading levels. I will use leveled readers for their guided reading time. We work on many skills and strategies including finger pointing, picture clues, looking at the beginning sound and stretching out words. We will also focus on finding the first/last word on the page, counting the words in a sentence, finding letters/sight words we know, punctuation, and different types of genres.
Word Work: Activities revolving around our word wall and sight words, practicing beginning/ending sounds, rhyming, blends, digraphs, and vowels.
Writing: Students will learn and practice writing letters, words and sentences, adding details/illustrations to pieces and as the year progresses, they will write stories and become real writers!
Read to Self: Children practice reading their books in their book boxes. It contains books they have created, which allows them time to read independently and become confident fluent readers.
I-Pads/Games: Students will utilize technology using Freckle and SeeSaw for listening to stories and playing interactive games and reading activities.
