This year, the DPT program honored three outstanding clinical instructors for their exceptional contributions to clinical education. Each instructor was nominated by a member of the DPT Class of 2025 through a thoughtfully written nomination essay. These awards recognize clinical educators who have shown a deep dedication to student learning and professional growth. Honorees were praised for their innovative and effective approaches to teaching and supervision, as well as their ability to tailor learning experiences to support each student’s individual needs. These instructors fostered an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming atmosphere, consistently embodying the core values of the physical therapy profession.
The DPT program selected co-recipients for the DPT Class of 2025 CI of the Year award. The first recipient was Adam Urick, PT, DPT, CSCS – Viverant – Eagan Clinic. His nominator wrote, “He doesn’t just teach clinical skills—he instills confidence, resilience, and a genuine passion for the profession. I never once felt like ‘just another student’ in his clinic; I felt like a respected future colleague, someone whose growth and success genuinely mattered to him. He challenges his students to be better while making them feel supported every step of the way. His investment in my journey as a physical therapist is something I will always be grateful for, and his mentorship has played a pivotal role in shaping the kind of clinician I will become.”
The second recipient was Katie Krump, PT, DPT – Sanford Hospital, Fargo ND. Her nominator shared, “Any PT student would be lucky to have a CI who taught them even half as much as Katie taught me. Through her ability to bring light to some very dark situations, empowering me to feel confident as my own PT while also holding me accountable and pushing me to improve, her genuine care towards every one of her patients, and so much more, she is undoubtedly my biggest PT role model to date.”
Rookie CI of the Year award goes to a clinical instructor who was taking a student for the first time. This year’s recipient was Jesse Olson, PT, DPT – Amery Hospital and Clinic. Jesse’s nominator wrote, “He created a safe, supportive, and risk-free learning environment where I felt encouraged to try new things and expand my skills. His thoughtful approach to teaching was evident in how he regularly shared his clinical reasoning and explained the rationale behind patient care decisions. This transparency greatly enriched my learning experience.”
Congratulations to all of our DPT Class of 2025 Clinical Instructor of the Year recipients!
