Across the Primary School we use a wide range of digital tools to enhance and deepen our students’ learning. To get the most out of these tools, it is important that our students have regular access to a computer or tablet at home, as teachers often set digital or online homework.
We ask parents to ensure that their children have access to the tools they need to complete their homework.

The Primary School uses an online reading program called Reading Eggs. The program reinforces the key elements of phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension, completely supporting what children learn in class.
Please contact your child’s class teacher if you feel their Reading Eggs account is not at the right level.
Children should do Reading Eggs at home 1-2 times a week - not every day!
To access Reading Eggs just visit sso.readingeggs.com/login in any browser.
When using First News Engage (formerly known as iHub), children get to answer comprehension questions, do crosswords and other activities based on recent news events which have appeared in the First News newspaper that we subscribe to here at school.
To access First News Engage just visit engage.firstnews.co.uk in any browser.

Designed by leading UK teachers, these apps work by identifying your child’s level, strengths and weaknesses, and gradually progressing them at the rate that’s right for them.
They contain adaptive algorithms to ensure the work presented to each individual student is adapted to their own strengths and weaknesses. This way, every student is learning exactly what they need to learn to progress most rapidly.
Streaks
We have changed our recommendations regarding the students' streaks. We have noticed that some students with very long streaks can get very stressed about the possibility of missing a day and losing their streak. This changes the dynamics around their use of the app and it can in fact distract them from the mathematical content that they should be focusing on. It can even negatively affect their performance. So instead, we recommend setting students an achievable "streak target", like 50 or 100 consecutive days. Once they reach their target, they could receive some kind of reward. Then we suggest they take a day or two off before starting a new streak with a new target. This way, they never find themselves in a situation where things beyond their control could force them to lose an enormous streak.
Please do not help your child with the activities, as the app will then adapt to your level, not theirs!
