Every day, we begin our math lesson with a number talk. This gets the students thinking about numbers in a conceptual way. This is all done mentally and students are able to see how problems can be solved in a variety of ways.

Our lesson consists of a mini lesson in a new skill, guided practice, and independent practice. On occasion, we meet in small groups.

When students complete their independent practice, they work on a variety of math activities to enhance skills they have recently learned or to try skills in order to challenge their mathematical thinking.
