At St Joseph's we have an Infant library and a Junior library. All classes visit the library once a week to exchange a book.
The aim of the library book is to encourage and support reading for pleasure. The idea is that the child shares this book with a parent, relative or other adult and it is enjoyed together.
At St. Joseph’s we believe it is important for children to listen to stories, read stories and talk about stories. Sharing stories and other books in this way allows children to have access to a language rich environment.
We encourage the children to choose good quality stories, fact books and poetry. At home, take the time to enjoy this story with your child. Ask them questions, role play parts of the story and re-read it a few times over the course of the week to promote emotional engagement.
Your child will have the opportunity to visit the library each week. Check Google Classroom or talk to your teacher if you are unsure which day your child’s library session is. In order for a new book to be taken out, the current book must be returned. Please look after the library book carefully. If the book gets lost a replacement will need to be provided.
