The Diamond Princess

The cruise industry was an economic engine, which had generated a total of 55.5 billion dollars in 2019. Then, Covid-19 hit and cruises were canceled. Many ships already on the sea were cut short, and those that were scheduled were canceled. However, a ship already at sea could not dock at port. An example of a ship that suffered this fate was the Diamond Princess; and said ship couldn't disembark because people had tested positive for Covid-19. This ship, and the people wih Covid-19 are what my project focuses on. My project runs through the dates of January 2020 to March 2020, which are the dates the Diamond Princess was on open waters. Furthermore, this ship was not just a crazy story that many kids used to dream of, but it showed us many important things about Covid-19. Also, it has a very important underlying theme of social classes. Many of the workers were not treated the same as those who paid their way onto the ship. In conclusion, the point of this project is to talk about the Diamond Princess which is very important, and rarely discussed. This story is an interesting sidenote to the most historical thing that has happened during my lifetime, Covid-19.
