The Fighting Irish was the nickname given to the Irish for the immigrant soldiers who fought during the Civil War, fighting for the Union. The KKK announced that they were going to rally in South Bend, planning to target college campuses to try and recruit new members of the Klan. They started recruiting at Notre Dame and the Fighting Irish did everything in their power to ignore the Klan. The Irish remained on campus to avoid the Klan. Notre Dame addressed the Klan’s threats and shut the Klan down as far as their conflict. The Klan wanted revenge but the Irish shut those plans down as well. It ended whenever the Irish refused to join the members of the Klan. Due to them avoiding the Klan, they reacted in a terrible way and began making threats to Notre Dame, but it did not fall in favor of the Klan. Due to Notre Dame defending themselves and refusing to become a part of the Klan, the Klan gained less people than they expected. The Klan began trolling for new members in other places, but they gave up on the Fighting Irish. This shows society today to stick up for what you believe is right and not to go through with something if that isn’t what you want.
