General Order #11

Introduction

General Order #11 was a directive issued by the Union Army in August of 1863, to evacuate 4 counties in the state of Missouri. The Order tried to decrease the fighting ability of Confederate Guerillas in Missouri, making it easy for the Union Army to defeat them. While General Order #11 was designed to help the Union army fight Confederate guerillas, it actually led to a decrease in development in the affected counties for the past 150 years.
