The duel of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr happened on July 11, 1804. This duel took place in Weehawken, New Jersey. Their hate towards each other at first wasn’t violence until the race of 1804. Aaron Burr left his party to become independent hoping to regain power if he won. Hamilton went around trying to convince people to not support Burr.



2. What was Aaron Burr’s reputation before the duel? What was it after?

Aaron Burr’s reputation of him being unprincipled and not trustworthy came from Hamiliton. Hamilton’s recklessness got Aaron Burr into problems. Aaron Burr’s reputation before was brilliant, interesting, and far-seeing. After the duel his reputation was completely destroyed. He was sent to court for murder, then to make things worse he was also trialed for treason.





3. What was Alexander Hamilton’s reputation before the duel? What was it after?

Alexander Hamiliton was born in the British West Indies. His reputation was made during the Revolutionary War. Alexander Hamilton became one of the most influential Founding Fathers of America. He got this reputation by being in many roles. Two of the roles are champion of a strong federal government, and being a big help in defending the U.S. Constitution.



4.Who was the winner of the duel/What was the Aftermath of the duel?

Aaron Burr and Alexander duel ended with Aaron Burr’s victory. The duel ended with a .56 caliber dueling pistol. Aaron Burr came out of the battle completely untouched. After the duel Aaron Burr was charged with two counts of murder and could never hold for office again, after his vice president term was over. He planned to gain power but it ended when he got charged with treason.




5. What were some similarities and differences between the duel between Burr and Hamilton and the duel between Andrew Jackson and Charles Dickinson?

Two differences between the Aaron Burr/Alexander Hamilton, and The Charles Dickinson/Andrew Jackson duel is. Andrew Jackson killed a man who falsely accused him then insulted his wife, compared to Aaron Burr’s duel where the reason was because of politics. Another difference between the two are Jackson was not accused of murder compared to Burrs trail for muder. Two similarities are both of the duels ended with a gun, both victors had something to do with politics before/after.
